Artur Express Implements Waitlist

Artur Express Waitlist

These days, when trucking companies are in high competition for drivers, it’s unheard of for a trucking company to be putting drivers on a waiting list, but that’s exactly what Artur Express is doing, and our current drivers say it’s worth the wait!

“I’ve worked for Artur Express for four years,” said company driver Lisa Meeks. “It’s the best company I’ve ever worked for. They treat us like we’re a part of the family, they get us home when we want to be home, and we run all the miles we want.”

A Company Built By Truckers For Truckers

Artur Express was established in 1998. The company has 750 trucks, 3,100 trailers, and 900 drivers. Our large trailer pool allows drivers to enjoy a large percentage of drop and hook freight. This allows drivers to keep running, get the miles they need, and reduces detention time.

Artur Express owners Artur Wagrodzki and Tom Tokarczyk grew up in the transportation industry. They know that when drivers aren’t running, no one is making money. They also know that drivers don’t like sitting and waiting to be loaded or unloaded, so they built a freight and customer base that allows drivers to get great miles while still getting the home time they need.

“I’ve been driving for Artur Express for four years. I average 3,400 miles a week and go home when I want to. They have great lanes, and I love the fact that 85% of Artur Express’ freight is drop and hook. I rarely ever have to sit and wait on live loads or unloads. I won’t go anywhere else,” said driver Louis Adelman.

Hiring for Growth, Not To Fill Seats

Sadie Church, Director of Recruiting for Artur Express, said the company’s recruiting philosophy is different from other companies. She says Artur Express is hiring for growth, not to simply fill seats. Church says the company wants to hire drivers who are a right fit for the company.

“We’re hiring with intention. We’re transparent with our prospective drivers. We put everything in writing before the drivers attend orientation. All drivers are given written offer letters with lanes and home time expectations and lease drivers see their lease before they even walk in the door,” Church said. “There should be no unexpected surprises when a driver shows up to orientation. We want to make sure the driver is a good fit for us, but we also want to make sure we’re the right fit for a driver.”

Artur Express’ hiring practices have worked. We ended 2021 with an astoundingly low turnover rate of 38%, compared to the industry-wide turnover rate of 90%.

“The leadership at Artur Express is supportive; they encourage the recruiting team to recruit ethically and with full transparency. This helps to dramatically reduce driver turnover,” Church said. “The recruiting team isn’t in a constant cycle of filling seats. They can spend their time really talking to drivers about not only the positions available, but also asking questions to the drivers about their needs. There’s no hard sell. If you’re a good, safe driver, we want you here, but we don’t want you to come here if we’re not the right fit for you. We don’t want to hire turnover.”

Church said the lack of pressure to continue with the recruiting churn has allowed her team to seek out the most-qualified, safest drivers on the road today.

“We’re getting applications from some of the most qualified drivers in the industry – drivers with 10, 15, 20 years at one company with no accidents and no violations. We have the luxury of being very selective,” Church said.

Lease with a Loadboard

In 2020, Artur Express launched a revolutionary lease program. Under the program, drivers can opt for percentage or per-mile pay. In addition, there are no fixed weekly fees. None! Drivers only pay for the loaded miles they drive.

In addition, there is no down payment, no credit check, and it’s a completely walk-away lease.

Artur Express lease drivers have access to the company’s loadboard and can choose the loads and lanes they want to run.

A Trucking Company With a Waitlist

Artur Express has built our company on our slogan: The Truckers’ Company. From our volume of drop and hook freight, freight lanes that provide consistent miles and steady income, our state-of-the-art, driver-oriented facility, to our astonishingly low driver turnover rate and subsequent driver testimonials and referrals, Artur Express has established ourself as a company drivers want to work for.

Artur Express driver Stephen Potts said, “I came to Artur Express after a couple of my friends started driving here. They told me how great the company was and how much they were making, so I decided to give it a try. I came to orientation with another one of our other friends. I wish I’d found this company 20 years ago. I’ve been here for 10 months now. I thought I was making good money with other companies, but I’ve never – in my entire career – made the money I do at Artur Express.”

Because of this, Artur Express has been forced to institute a waitlist for incoming drivers until new trucks come in. The decision to create a waitlist is unheard of in trucking, but due to truck availability due to popularity and low turnover, we have been forced to institute the waitlist.

“Until new trucks arrive, we will only bring in the number of drivers we have trucks available for,” said Artur Express Vice President Kristi Randall. “We want incoming drivers to have a good experience in orientation. We want our drivers to be able to select their trucks. We want them to be seated in trucks they want to drive.”

“Once the new trucks arrive, we’ll return to recruiting as normal – ethically and with intention.” she concluded.
